Clowning (Beginner)

"Clowning' is a less aggressive predecessor to Krump and was created in 1992 by Thomas "Tommy the Clown" Johnson in Compton, California. In the 1990s, Johnson and his dancers—known as the Hip Hop Clowns—performed clowning for children's' birthday parties and other general-public functions. His goal in creating this style was to make positive change in the community, and to provide an outlet for kids to avoid gangs, drugs, & violence. Both Clowning and Krumping have roots in traditional African and Caribbean dances of the past, and is now often expressed through the culture of dance battling.
