Krump Fundamentals

Krumping is a style that came out of the Clowning movement in L.A. It is a recent movement developed in the late 90s early 2000s. A backronym for Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise, Krumping is a main part of urban youth culture and has formed as a way for youth to express their anger, frustration and aggression in non-violent ways and is presented as a Christian faith based art form. It has helped many people avoid getting involved in gangs, gang violence and drugs, all common activities in the inner city streets. It is a non-commercialized form of Hip-Hop dance that takes place mostly on the streets or in organized dance battles at venues. Krumping involves a lot of freestyle/improvisation and is unique to every individual. It includes very free, highly energetic, exaggerated, and aggressive movement.

The style as founded by Ceasare “Tight Eyez” Willlis and Jo’Artis “Big Mijo” Ratti, who were both originally members of Tommy’s Hip-Hop Clowns.
